Rhodes House is a magnificent wedding venue located in the heart of Oxford. It is a building steeped in history. As the headquarters for one of the world’s most prestigious international scholarship programmes, Rhodes House has supported the education of leaders including former US President Bill Clinton, former Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke, Nobel Scientists and others at the forefront of many professions, all of whom have enjoyed the use of the wonderful facilities.
The house itself is perfectly suited to capturing the romantic ambience of your special day, and guests have commented that it is both grand yet intimate, in the style of a Cotswolds mansion and with elements of Cape Dutch architecture. On your wedding day you can enjoy exclusive use of the house as well as the impressive grounds that include a stunning courtyard, a walled garden and the longest herbaceous border in Oxford. Our bridal parties have found that the magnificent and colourful floral displays are a perfect backdrop for wedding photography. All rooms lead directly into the gardens, a wonderful setting for pre-reception drinks.
The impressive Milner Hall proves very popular for weddings; with its incredible semi-circular carved table and high beams, it seats up to 140 for dinner and 200 for a reception or buffet.You will be in good company; the walls are adorned with portraits of famous leaders, including large tapestries of Cecil Rhodes and Nelson Mandela – who last visited in 2002 and wrote in the visitor’s book of his “unforgettable experience”.
If you prefer a smaller gathering or are looking for additional space, there are The Jameson Room and The Beit Room, which are ideal for pre-dinner drinks or for parties of between 30 and 70 guests.
We understand the importance of your day and you can feel confident that together, with our preferred caterers, we will ensure every detail is perfect. Rhodes House combines tradition with modern comforts and being warm and welcoming the house is equally suited to winter weddings.
All rooms have heating to ensure the venue is equally cosy and warm for winter weddings.We have space for dancing and caterers have access to a fully-equipped, modern hotel kitchen. This gorgeous and elegant wedding reception venue will be licensed for Civil Ceremonies and Partnership Ceremonies from 2011.
